STEPn2

November 8th @ NOON

Slavery, Freedom & the Archive

Wednesday, Nov. 8th at noon

Come think with us about the meaning of the USA’s national Anthem. Bring a brown bag lunch and join discussion with diverse thinkers and Chris Brown, WFU English Department, as part of our Teaching Engagement Series Step N2 this class.

Chris will be sharing a lesson from the “Slavery, Freedom, and the Archive” course that he is teaching this semester in the English Department at Wake Forest.  In this class, we’ll be thinking about the Star-Spangled Banner and how we arrive at meanings in this day and age for an anthem that is more than 200 years old.  What has it meant at different moments in its history and to whom?  And how have those meanings been performed?  We’ll dive into the historical record to read and watch and listen.
